Pre-natal & Post-natal Physiotherapy

What can I expect from my physiotherapist?

The pre-natal and post-natal Clinical Pilates classes will be run by Eleanor Donoghue who has done further education in pelvic floor physiotherapy. She has experience designing appropriate exercises for both the pregnant woman, and the new mother. Eleanor will work in conjunction with other health professionals involved in your care such as:

  • General practitioner
  • Obstetrician
  • Continence nurse

This team work approach will be used to specifically address conditions such as pelvic girdle pain and incontinence.

When appropriate you may be recommended to see a musculoskeletal physiotherapist or a myotherapist to provide relief from sore joints and sore muscles or podiatrist. These manual therapies can be used in conjunction with Clinical Pilates to assist in your rehabilitation by facilitating:

  • Improved range of movement of joints
  • Improved stretch of muscles
  • Pain relief

Common Pre and Post Natal conditions treated are:

  • Pelvic  pain
  • Abdominal separation
  • de Quervain’s tenosynovitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Joint hypermobility
  • Hip, knee and foot pain
  • Neck and back pain
