What
is Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy?
Musculoskeletal
Physiotherapy is a specialised area within physiotherapy that focuses on
accurate assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Musculoskeletal
injuries are injuries to
joints, muscles, bones and/or nerves. Common
conditions treated are neck and back pain, and shoulder, hip and knee injuries.
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists often use manual therapy treatment
techniques such as joint mobilisation or manipulation and massage to restore
normal function, in conjunction with exercise programs.
What
is an APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist?
Musculoskeletal
Physiotherapists are qualified physiotherapists who have undergone further
university based post-graduate studies in diagnosis and management of
musculoskeletal injury management,
prevention and treatment. Once they
attain this level they are recognised by the Australian Physiotherapy
Association (APA) as an APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist.
APA
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists are regarded as experts in their chosen field
of physiotherapy. They employ advanced clinical assessment and diagnosis
methods, and have been trained in a broader range of treatment techniques than
many other health professionals. As a result, APA Musculoskeletal
Physiotherapists are world-leaders in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of
muscle and joint problems, especially low back and neck pain.
