“Myo”
= Muscle
Myotherapy is a specialised
field of soft tissue therapy which focuses on releasing ‘triggerpoints’ in
muscle. Triggerpoints are highly
contracted areas (or knots) within a muscle which, if left untreated, can cause
pain, muscular weakness, postural imbalance, restricted movement and/or fatigue.
Triggerpoints can perpetuate muscular pain syndromes because they weaken
a muscle and make it vulnerable to further injury.
Myotherapists have many
therapeutic tools at their disposal, including deep tissue massage, corrective
exercise and dry needling.
Massages from myotherapists
are sought-after as their knowledge of muscular anatomy and precise hands-on
skills are second to none. (They
are not, however recommended for those seeking ‘relaxation massage’ as
trigger point-deactivation tends to cause a temporary reproduction of pain
before overall relief is realised.)
Some pain syndromes in which Myotherapy can be of benefit:
- Headache
- Back
pain
- Compartment
Syndrome
- R.S.I.
- Tennis
/ Golfer's Elbow
- Carpal
/ Tarsal Tunnel Syndromes
- Stiff or painful neck
- Plantar fasciitis
Benefits of Myotherapy:
- Can
assist in recovery from injury / training / overuse / pregnancy
- Can
improve mobility, posture and quality of sleep
- Can
provide marked relief from muscular pain, whether chronic or acute, thereby
contributing to general wellbeing

HICAPS is available for claiming your myotherapy rebate
