History of Hydrotherapy
The value of warm water as a
therapeutic medium was recognized and utilized by philosophers such as Plato and
Hippocrates. Hydrotherapy is an increasingly popular form of physiotherapy
treatment for a large variety of conditions including orthopaedic and spinal
disorders.
Treatment programs are aimed at active rehabilitation and physical conditioning.
Although
hydrotherapy has ancient roots and is one of the oldest forms of therapy, new
developments and equipment have improved treatment options. Water provides a
healthy environment where the patient can perform activities earlier in the
rehabilitation process due to the buoyancy, warmth and smooth resistance of the
water.
Hydrotherapy
at Bellbird Sports & Spinal
Hydrotherapy is undertaken in our purpose built, onsite, hydrotherapy pool. Our
pool is heated to 32 to 34ºC to provide a warm, comfortable environment in which to carry out hydrotherapy
sessions.
Bellbird
Sports & Spinal offers a variety of hydrotherapy sessions including
individual and group sessions. Programs are tailored to suit individual needs
and are run by physiotherapists with extensive knowledge and experience in hydrotherapy.
Hydrotherapy
involves undertaking tailored exercises in a warm water environment. The benefits of
hydrotherapy are numerous including; pain relief, muscle strengthening and
relaxation, increased joint flexibility, improved circulation, fitness and
balance. The buoyancy of the water provides support, enabling exercises to be
performed much more easily in water than on land. Your physiotherapist utilises
these properties to facilitate your rehabilitation and recovery.
The pool
facilities include a wide variety of hydrotherapy equipment for therapeutic
purposes, as well as shower and change room facilities.
